Brief biography

Christian Dior was a popular French fashion designer who is still one of the leading names in fashion. A small town on the coast of France was born on January 21, 1905 in Granville. He came from a family of wealth that made his fortune in fertilizer and their parents wanted young Christian to become a man of influence, possibly a diplomat. Sent him to the prestigious school of Scinces of Ecole des Politiques where Christian was an average student. One reason why does not Excel in his studies was because he spent all his free time mainly outline fashion designs. He even sold sketches of fashion in the street to make extra money.

After graduated his father reluctantly gave him enough money to start a small gallery of art. But when the family suffered financial disaster and his father lost his business, Dior was forced to close his gallery. After a brief stint in the army, Dior joined the House of Lucien Lelong fashion, where it quickly became one of their designers.

With a growing reputation for original designs, Dior was supported by a rich admirer to open her own fashion house in 1946. His first collection was a resounding success and the Harper Bazzaar editor called "New Look," a label that would be associated with Christian Dior all his days.

Designs

The most obvious to the designs of Dior apart from other designers was its use of tissue. After the second world war, the fashion community was forced to conserve and use less tissue in their designs due to rations on fabric. Paris was still pick up the pieces and return to life after the Nazi occupation, and nearly everything was rationed. Fashion designers were particularly affected and had to rethink its comprehensive approach to make dresses with less tissue. But Dior was a real rebel and refused to put in danger. Not used to less tissue in his clothing, but rather decided to simply make less clothing. This allowed the Dior line stand out and attract attention of reporters of fashion from around the world. They described as voluptuous look and one that creates new forms and silhouettes.

To achieve this "new image" Dior used tissues lined with Percale, filled with hip and petticoats which makes the dresses more in the area of the waist and bust, that shaped their models a curvier. And because he used more than woven into their dresses was capable of long duration and covered by the legs. Before then designers had been doing dressed shorts due to the shortage of cloth, which is why Dior dresses were new. Dior and his "New Look" would revolutionize the way and to return to their place in the top of the fashion in Paris.
